Comrades

I just watched this Korean Drama called Comrades a.k.a. The Legend of Patriots. I am not really a fan of Korean stuffs but I am a fan of war movies. Historical is fine too. Comrades is about the Korean War, the war between North and South Korea, that technically still going on right now since they’re only signing a ceased fire agreement in 1953 and not a peace treaty. Centered around Lee Hyun Joong (Choi Soo Jong), a First Class Sergeant who commanded his squad, who went through many occasions from battles, covert mission, infiltration, POW plus escaping from enemy prison which later being detained by South Korean anti-communist organization only to be in another hell of mental tortures by their own side. Smile while you can

Smile while you can

The North Korea launched an artillery attacks on South Korean island around 2.30 PM local time. At the moment (3.43 PM), the report says that at least one South Korea soldier killed. Two civilians and 13 other South Korean military personnel were injured, with three of the soldiers seriously hurt, Yonhap news agency said. South Korean government is on high alert with its artillery and air forces being deployed to counter the 200 rounds of North Korean artillery fire. It is assumed that ground troops being mobilized. Images showing that the island with plumes of smoke that was broad-casted. The video report also says about burning houses. The attack resulted in many businesses in Seoul, mostly, halted.

While you’re thinking what does this escalated situation between North Korea and South Korea have to do with ignorant otaku inside their bedrooms, remember that there are many anime studios in South Korea. Worst case scenario, we can expect missing anime episode in the upcoming weeks.

Inflate them up!

wheeeee wheeeeeee~

*inflates* wheeeee wheeeeeee~

Well, it’s not really about anime or Japan stuff actually. As the economy is going unstable, the inflation made it’s way to the Russian Army to inflate their weapons. Yeah, cheap and easily deployable fake tanks just by blowing ‘em up with some air. What’s so amazing with this thing? Wasn’t this thing already popular back in North African theater during World War 2? Apparently, it isn’t just tanks. They created a lot of big things up to a radar station itself. Means, if you found a military base in Russia, it might be a fake one. There might even be some MiG jet fighters too. I would love to get that one.

Fighter Aircraft Girls of World War II

How to attract people, especially otaku, to learn more about a subject? Make them moe. Previously, there was a book about nations of the world with a moefied girl representing each country. Mecha musume isn’t something new. But when a selected topic being represented in moe form, it becomes interesting. Consider this as something similar to Strike Witches but more in-depth and accurate information.

The book provides more than 50 planes illustrated, moe-ly. So here I show some of the famous planes.

Davai! Davai!

Davai! Davai!

So, my site is back again, for now. I am still not sure how will it gonna be after this. I have yet to see how it goes for the bandwidth. Just wait and see. Anyway, I would like to say something about Soviet Russia today. I was in Amcorp Mall today along with Hangmen and shah_ho_nam. Initially, I planned to get Hangmen’s Level IV body armor replica but after testing it, it wouldn’t fit me. Damn, being fat is a sin. That’s why we went to Amcorp Mall to find some military stuffs that we can have a look at. It’s not easy to get a parking there (although after we got our parking slot, there were suddenly like 2 more empty parking spaces at the other side, bugger). Hangmen went straight away to have his meal at Subway while I got myself a new footwear, a pair of fake Crocs. It’s cheap anyway. There were many peddlers with their goods over those small tables. From peddler to another peddler, we went along while looking around at their stuffs. Especially those military enthusiasts type of materials. Albeit that there were many good looking stuffs there, it’s hard to find those fake body armors. Interestingly, there’s also sniper scope. I would to have one but I don’t think it can fit on my AK-47 airgun anyway since it doesn’t have any rail on it. At the figurine shop, Hangmen bought some miniature gears for his figures. So did I, although only a handful of miniature weapons which I thought good enough for my figmas to play with. As there are floors of shop lots, we went from floor to floor. From lower to upper floor and then went downwards. Then we went again to those military stuffs peddlers. At first, I saw something interesting like those Soviet Russia’s badges. Then some military helmets, caps and hats. One of the interesting stuff was that helmet for tank crews. It’s equipped with inner headphone as well although I am not sure whether it’s still working or not. Then I saw something rare, a Russian Navy Hat. Something like those chauffeur hat. Cool stuff but pricey. Then I saw another cap which is cheaper and I decided to get it.

It has Russian Navy Insignia

It has Soviet Navy-like Insignia

By the means of “like” there, I am not sure which is the real badge it’s actually mimicking but the head wear is awesome. By putting off the badge, I might use it as a skull cap for me to go for Friday prayer at mosque.

The Great Explosions

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Hiroshima and Nagasaki

6th and 9th of August 1945 marked in the history of human civilizations as the invention of the weapon of mass destruction which unleashed upon the humanity itself. This was a result of nuclear weapon race between Americans and Germans in World War II. Albeit, Nazi Germany surrendered earlier before the Americans could finish up the construction of the bombs. Furthermore, they’re frustrated to know that the Germans had nothing for such thing as they’re already getting suppresses and pressures due to the war. The idea of the bombs was to be detonated upon the Germany but upon the fall of this European nemesis, the Allied forces switched their targets to the stubborn enemy in the Far East, Imperial Japan.

Hari Pahlawan

Tugu Negara

Tugu Negara

Silent Eagle

Behold! The new stealth fighter. Boeing unveiled the prototype of a new variant of the F-15 Strike Eagle. It is the same as the original F-15 jet fighter except that the body has been coated and improved with stealth technology. It has been renamed as F-15 Silent Eagle.

ST. LOUIS, March 17, 2009 – The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] today in St. Louis unveiled the F-15 Silent Eagle (F-15SE), a new F-15 configuration designed to meet the future needs of international customers.

“The F-15 Silent Eagle is designed to meet our international customers’ anticipated need for cost-effective stealth technologies, as well as for large and diverse weapons payloads,” said Mark Bass, F-15 Program vice president for Boeing. “The innovative Silent Eagle is a balanced, affordable approach designed to meet future survivability needs.”

Improvements in stealth include coatings and treatments on the aircraft. With the added advantage of redesigned conformal fuel tanks (CFTs) that allow for internal weapons carriage, the Silent Eagle becomes a very attractive fighter for Boeing’s international customers.

Depending on the specific mission, the customer can use the CFTs that are designed for internal carriage or change back to the traditional CFTs for optimum fuel capacity and external weapons carriage. The Silent Eagle will be able to internally carry air-to-air missiles such as the AIM-9 and AIM-120 and air-to-ground weapons such as the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) and Small Diameter Bomb (SDB). The standard weapons load used on current versions of the F-15 is available with the traditional CFTs installed.

The aircraft’s canted vertical tails improve aerodynamic efficiency, provide lift, and reduce airframe weight. Another aerodynamic improvement is the Digital Flight Control System, which improves the aircraft’s reliability and reduces airframe weight.

Survivability improvements include a BAES Digital Electronic Warfare System (DEWS) working in concert with the Raytheon Advanced Electronic Scanning Array (AESA) radar.

Boeing has completed a conceptual prototype of the CFT internal-carriage concept, and plans to flight-test a prototype by the first quarter of 2010, including a live missile launch.

The design, development, and test of this internal carriage system are available as a collaborative project with an international aerospace partner.

With F-35 Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter) program came under fire due to economical downturn and other criticism although the development still underway, it’s seem that Boeing decided to cater the needs of minor countries with this new F-15 fighter that has stealth capability. Good decision there Boeing as Lockheed Martin having tough time with their F-35. Perhaps Malaysian Airforce should get a squadron or two of this baby. Thanks to Logan Hartke of Derelict Studios for heads up.

No More MiGs

Taken from Flightglobal :

Russian combat aircraft makers to form one unit
Russia’s United Aircraft (OAK) is to create a single combat aircraft division by merging its RSK MiG and Sukhoi units under the leadership of Sukhoi boss Mikhail Pogosyan.

To date, OAK’s combat aircraft strategy has tasked MiG with development of light fighters including the MiG-35 and unmanned aircraft, along with modernisaton of in-service MiGs, while Sukhoi has been developing the Su-35 and PAK FA fighters.

In 10 years as head of Sukhoi, Pogosyan has ditched several programmes to concentrate on what he called “real breakthrough” projects such as the all-new Superjet 100 regional jet. A key Pogosyan achievement has been to bring Western risk-sharing suppliers into the Superjet effort, including Snecma, Liebherr, Thales and B/E Aerospace, along with Alenia, which is Sukhoi’s 50/50 joint venture partner in the marketing and sales organisation, Superjet International.

RSK MiG, on the other hand, never recovered from the crisis that hit Russian aerospace following the collapse of the Soviet Union. MiG-29s have sold in small quantities since then, thanks largely to the huge parts stock built up during the Soviet era. It has been able to certify the MiG-29SMT/UBT and MiG-31BM, and has flown Indian navy MiG-29K/KUBs and MiG-35s.

An encouraging Algerian order for 34 MiG-29SMT/UBTs turned sour when the country sought to return 15 of the aircraft, delivered in 2007, claiming poor manufacturing quality.

After Joint Strike Fighter’s project came underfire due to economical crisis, it seems that the Russians have made a move by combining both MiG and Sukhoi into one entity. But this time, it’s Sukhoi that leads the way for Russian military production.

Post Cold War era shows us how well MiG aircrafts being sold to foreign countries including Malaysia since multiple units they have in stock and were sold cheaply which also made them popular choice among developing countries. After years of the welcoming foreign investors into their country, economical boom made them further away from their communism ideology. Among other things, Sukhoi have always been favored by the Russian government for military equipments.

Despite those two giants rivalry, they have always cooperate together under the direction of the government. Recent years show that Sukhoi has already pursuing for fifth generation of aircraft with their PAK FA project. The joint venture with India and Brazil proved to be promising for the aircraft to make its maiden flight around 2009. MiG, however, still upgrading the MiG 29 series and their effort for the fifth generation aircraft was the Project 1.44 which became a jet technology demonstrator (also means to serve purely as a technological showcase and testbed for future aircraft designs, not as an actual air superiority fighter prototype).

MiG has became an iconic aircraft especially when someone wants to related something with Russian like in those movies, games, comics and such. Now they’re no more. From the pre World War II up until this year, MiG had stand on its own to produce many aircrafts and they surely be missed.
