Upcoming Games: Towards the end of 2009

By maskawaih, August 20, 2009 3:10 PM

Previously, I’ve been an ardent follower of PC Games. Following that post, there are still games not yet released for this year like Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Truly, I am still a PC gamer while being a console games fanatic at the same time. I choose to buy PS3 last time after some exclusive games that I like which are only available on it. Not really neglecting PC games though I can say, I am only interested with certain FPS and RTS games for PC gaming. Of course that games like Killzone 2 looks cool and nice in PS3 but I hate playing it with the DS3 controller. Xbox 360 controller might be better than Dualshock for PS3 in terms of playing FPS but I still hate playing it with such thing. Not only that, it’s stupid to play Red Alert 3 on consoles as well. Micromanagement is totally out of topic for consoles. In my office, there’s an Xbox 360 along with several games which included Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath. I tried playing the game and found it’s totally hard. Despite how cool the controller can do, it’s still better on keyboard and mouse. Good thing about console games is that the ease and quickness from booting the console up and play a game. Anyway, let me proceed to what I have in my mind for the upcoming games.

IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey (PS3)

Tallyho!

Tallyho!

Originally a WW2 aircraft combat simulation game for PC, IL-2 finally being made available for consoles. Being a fan of WW2 planes, I simply love the sound of propeller engines along with the upbringing of the original term of dogfight. Also, I am a  little bit fanatical of German WW2 planes for their supreme quality and designs of their weaponry. Of course that modern jet fighters are fun to play with. But this new digital era shows us that things can get easier in aerial combat with simply computerized systems and button mashing. Birds of Prey presents playable authentic planes from Germany, Great Britain, United States and Soviet Russia along with historical air battles especially the epic Battle of Britain and Eastern Front. This game is also available for Xbox 360 and will be released on September 15.

Press S1 to achieve victory

I bought some cool shits yesterday. Apparently it’s because of that my previous keyboard and mouse failing me so much that I nearly rage out like maniacal newfag being trolled by several unsympathetic  bitches on forum. The old keyboard was being used for about 2 years. It’s failing hard and shit because my brother loves to smoke in front of my PC and the ashes would deter it more; not only appearance but also some keys were stuck. Well, cheapo Viewsonic keyboard which was like RM 35. The next thing is my old Deathadder mouse by Razer. Cool motherfucking shit that I got after purchasing C&C3 Kane’s Wrath Limited Edition. But sadly, this black and red striped crap failed me after more than a year of usage. It’s supposed to be an expensive bitch that shouldn’t be having flaws like ‘accidental double-click’. Well, I had my time with Razer. I used to have Diamondback previously (which I replaced with DA after getting it). Currently the mouse is being used by my sister. So, what are the new shits I bought to replace them?

Well yeah, Sidewinder X6. Detachable numpad that interchangeable to the left or to the right of the keyboard. More importantly, macro keys that programmable to combine several keys together in one single button hit.

Q9550 and CM 690

I know that people have started buying Intel i7 processors and also there will be i6 along with i9 processors as well. Well, I just bought Intel C2Q processor, Q9550. Reasons being that Intel just giving some price slashes to their processors and I am not that willing enough to buy a new LGA1366 motherboard along with DDR3 ram modules. So, it’s a quad core cpu. It costed me RM 794 and previously it was very expensive (a month’s pay? lol). Given that the latest version is using 45nm, that’s freaking nice. More over, I decided to buy a new casing as the old PowerLogic casing didn’t have much room for additional fans. Yep, I bought Cooler Master CM 690 along with several more fans.

I went to One Utama last night. Why? Because Mac City, the Apple Computer Reseller in Malaysia, is currently holding an event there, the ”Mac + iPod Discovery Week” from 17th to 21st December. As usual, a fair like this will exhibit several products from the reseller where people can have somewhat personal hands on with the products which eventually will make them purchase it (or simply tell others for show off like, “Hey, I get a hold of iPhone that day. It’s very cool lor”).

Mac + iPod Discovery Week
Mac + iPod Discovery Week

For last night, I was there along with Amin and Reza Fahmi, the Terato big boss, for attending the iPhone Development talk apart from having fun by testing those gadgets. Conducted by Chris Hong, he gave much of his experiences on developing applications for Mac especially iPhone/iPod. As some of you might already knew, iPhone still has a very small market in Malaysia as it’s not yet officially available. Though, iPod Touch is available and it’s functions are pretty much the same only without those GSM, GPS and camera functions. So far, there are only two applications officially from Malaysian developers (as what Chris said). One of the developers was there, Adrian, who created a simple but useful converter application. Actually, we are somewhat members of Malaysian Cocoaheads, local branch of the international Cocoa Programmers’ Group. Opposed from usual meeting which is 3rd Saturday of the month, we made the meeting earlier as of the iPhone Development talk was on Thursday.

It was a fun experience. Being an ardent gamer on Windows platform, I don’t have much reasoning to use Apple Macintosh much. Yet, as I am iPhone developer wannabe, developing stuffs on Apple platform is a must. For those who don’t know much, Xcode is a tool for programming in Cocoa. Despite it uses Objective-C for its programming language, it can understand other programming languages like C or C++ which also can be integrated into the Objective-C with some simple coding (just like Chris said, again). Oh, those two cats of mine are just additional spices added in this entry.

Well, that’s all for now. :3

The Culprit is…

By maskawaih, December 17, 2008 4:34 PM

Last Saturday, I asked linkinstreet to come over to my house and help me figuring out what’s the problem with my computer. He brought along a spare PSU and an Nvidia 9600GT which both were mine before (I think the PSU is still mine lol). After he experienced himself about the symptoms of my computer, he suggested to try with the PSU first. Amazingly, it made past BIOS. So the culprit was PSU instead of graphic card which I suspected. Before anyone stupidly accuse this and that, I’ve done POST test where my system seems to be able to pass it when I unplugged everything, only mobo. But on that day, even with POST test and everything, the motherboard seems cannot be booted at all (well, it did boot but only the fans moving without any beeping sounds). Only after we tried with the PSU, it seems there’s hope. For some reason, even though it’s booted to BIOS, the BIOS page seemed inaccessible despite hitting DEL button repeatedly. Perhaps, the PSU hadn’t enough juice to make the PC runs. Off we went to Lolwut Lowyat Plaza (actually we went to Hard Net shop in Kajang first but eventually went along to Lowyat due to unavailability).

Extreme 500W yo!
Extreme 500W yo!

So, I bought this Cooler Master Extreme 500W for RM 170. Nothing fancy about it as eventually my Silverstone Strider ST50F is better for quality than this but it is the culprit for my PC failure to boot. I guess it was because of lightning or other shits that made it failed. I have to RMA it back quickly (but I am not free with works and stuffs). Finally, my PC can be boot well and I am fucking happy about it. Sorry Gainward for cursing at you lol.

Move on to my work side, our office has received with furnitures; tables, chairs, a couch and curtains. Oh, not forgetting the table tennis table… doesn’t sound right, it’s ping pong table or whatever it is called.

iPhone development tools can be downloaded at Apple Developer site. Free registration but you need a Macbook to start working on it. Yeah, yeah, I know that there’s other workaround tools for Windows users to develop something for iPhone but the native is on Apple Mac OS X. While the registration is free, you can only play around with the iPhone Simulator though. You have to pay for your applications to be available on your iPhone.

Ciao.

Work in progress

By maskawaih, December 7, 2008 2:25 PM

Last Friday, I’ve just started working at Terato Tech, a company established by my senior of my former school, to develop software. Supposed to be started on Thursday but we have no equipments in the office yet. We are focusing on the development of games for iPhone. It’s something new for me because I am not very familiar with Apple Macintosh. Apparently, so do my officemates. Well, at least we have an office where we can do our work and stuffs.

Empty office is empty

No furniture as of now. No worries as they will be there soon from IKEA (they’re postponing until after Hari Raya Korban if we want them to deliver to our office). The air conditioner has already been installed. Pretty cool and run at 2.5 HP. Carpets are there too though not shown at the picture above as that was taken before the carpets arrived. Well, there’s no internet yet because the TM operatives have some conflicting shit that is from their parts. As usual, TMnet rocks, meh. But that day, we’re discreetly stealing bandwidth from unprotected WiFi from nearby office. Quite funny because they didn’t put any kind of security and I can look into several computers’ shared folders and documents easily. Imagine if I delete any files they’re sharing there. Hehehe…

Oh, I just got myself an Apple Macbook :3 and it was given to me for the development tool for the iPhone project. Well, not entirely mine as it’s still a company property which contracted to me to take care of it.

Still playing around with this Macbook and I have to learn more on the use of iPhone SDK for the project. Oh, if you’re wondering where is my office, it’s just the other row further than the McDonald’s row in Diamond Complex behind Bintang Supermarket. Of course it’s near to my previous office for my internship which is Idwal Systems.

Intel Family

By maskawaih, December 4, 2008 12:02 PM

I was having a few problem with my motherboard. Most prominent problem was if I shutdown my computer to change peripherals or something and then I try to boot it up, it won’t get into the BIOS at all. The trick here is that I had to cool down the computer abit with any power cable attached being pulled out just to boot up my computer again. But for a few days ago, it won’t go past BIOS or anything as the motherboard just having all it’s fans running as fast as possible without any sign that it will go into my windows. I’ve tried pulling out the RAMs and any drives attached on the motherboard but to no avail.

So I ended up with buying a new motherboard. As you may have guessed, I am using Intel board now.

Despite my unbias personality, I kinda fond of Asus products for most of time

Not only that, I also bought a new hard disk drive which is a Seagate 750Gb. Along with a fan for CPU as I am currently using E6600 which I borrow from linkinstreet. I paid RM 795 for all stuffs despite I didn’t buy any CPU. Well, time will tell. I might hunting for Quad core series which I believe will get cheaper sooner as Core i7 series just came out. *grins*

The only problem I faced when transitioning with new motherboard is that my Windows Vista needed to be reactivated. But my Vista OEM only works for one motherboard only. Sad case ;_; It seems I have to resort with other method for time being.

Until next time.
