Previously, I’ve been an ardent follower of PC Games. Following that post, there are still games not yet released for this year like Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3. Truly, I am still a PC gamer while being a console games fanatic at the same time. I choose to buy PS3 last time after some exclusive games that I like which are only available on it. Not really neglecting PC games though I can say, I am only interested with certain FPS and RTS games for PC gaming. Of course that games like Killzone 2 looks cool and nice in PS3 but I hate playing it with the DS3 controller. Xbox 360 controller might be better than Dualshock for PS3 in terms of playing FPS but I still hate playing it with such thing. Not only that, it’s stupid to play Red Alert 3 on consoles as well. Micromanagement is totally out of topic for consoles. In my office, there’s an Xbox 360 along with several games which included Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath. I tried playing the game and found it’s totally hard. Despite how cool the controller can do, it’s still better on keyboard and mouse. Good thing about console games is that the ease and quickness from booting the console up and play a game. Anyway, let me proceed to what I have in my mind for the upcoming games.
IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey (PS3)
Originally a WW2 aircraft combat simulation game for PC, IL-2 finally being made available for consoles. Being a fan of WW2 planes, I simply love the sound of propeller engines along with the upbringing of the original term of dogfight. Also, I am a little bit fanatical of German WW2 planes for their supreme quality and designs of their weaponry. Of course that modern jet fighters are fun to play with. But this new digital era shows us that things can get easier in aerial combat with simply computerized systems and button mashing. Birds of Prey presents playable authentic planes from Germany, Great Britain, United States and Soviet Russia along with historical air battles especially the epic Battle of Britain and Eastern Front. This game is also available for Xbox 360 and will be released on September 15.
Assassin’s Creed 2 (PS3)
This new chapter of Assassin’s Creed sets upon Italian city of Florence during the Renaissance Era. No longer we have Altair to play with but instead, we will have Ezio Auditore. One may say, the game might bringing the same gameplay as before while adding a few things inside to spice things up. I kinda agree with that. In the previous game, things getting repetitive after awhile as you went through cities of Damascus, Acre and Jerusalem. But it’s the graphics and arts that I appreciate the most. Playing games such as this would give me impressions on the places although it’s not really the perfect reincarnation. Plus, I want to know more about the story. Likewise, this game is made available for Xbox 360 and also PC on November 17.
Tekken 6 (PS3)
The next installment of Tekken series. Tekken 6 has been in development for some time. This infamous 3D fighting game has evolved from block-ish 3D cubes in Playstation to the finest graphical presentation a console can do. The game has already released on arcade few months ago and planned to be released on Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Playstation Portable on October 27, this year. As much as I like Tekken, I am pretty sure I am not that fanatical about it. Most probably because I am not that good playing fighting games. I might be consider this game as ‘usual Tekken games’. The recent fighting game I played was Blazblue Calamity Trigger. Despite I bought it because Sora forced me to, it’s a very fun game. Not sure if Tekken 6 is up to it other than beautiful graphics.
Modern Warfare 2 (PC)
The sequel of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare gets it’s own franchise by ditching ‘Call of Duty’ title. Because this is an FPS game, I would prefer to play it using a mouse and a keyboard on my PC rather than struggling with PS3′s controller or even that Xbox 360. So, what’s so cool about this new series? First, it takes off few years from the last game which means the continuation of the story. Captain Price is presumed dead and now it’s Captain Soap MacTavish to continue doing some badass jobs. Oh, did I say Captain Soap? He got promoted to the rank of Captain in SAS after the last incident. For second point, we got to see the Captain himself as we’re gonna play a new character who’s the subordinate of Captain Soap. I am not sure whether we gonna have American campaign like the previous. Moreover, the third part is the best part as I like the new multiplayer modes. For instance, we can call in Spectre gunship and also controlling the weapons as well unlike random choppers. Also, we have anti-air missile as well to take down opponent’s plane. Cool eh? It’s gonna get to the shelves on November 10.
Need For Speed: Shift (PS3)
I am gonna get this game for my PS3. Apparently because I don’t have other racing games on it. I do have Burnout Paradise but it’s not really a racing game. The success of Race Driver: Grid by Codemasters (which consist of local programmers as well) opened the eyes of the people that a hybrid of simulation and arcade with superb graphics could make through to the market. EA adopts new studio to create the game unlike previous boring versions. While hardcore gamers might sighing about EA’s products, Shift looks promising. Because this title focuses on bringing simulation and realistic driving which many think that casual arcade gamers won’t like it. This also means that there will be more car damages and better physics implied on the cars compared to previous titles. Drifting makes its comeback as it was missing before. Release date? September 17 on all platforms.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (PC)
Years ago, there’s a game called Operation Flashpoint, a simulation-like tactical military game. By the means of simulation, it’s a game that focusing on realistic way of combat. Let’s say, it’s one shot, one kill situation. That game was superb and also frustrating at the same time since you can only save once in a mission while the mission might going along for an hour. After the split up between the studios, the franchise kinda dead and apparently the other studio brought Armed Assault (along with the sequel) to the public. This new release of Dragon Rising is developed by Codemasters. Some people might get skeptical as they wonder if this game gonna be good since Armed Assault was a great game. Nevertheless, it looks great. I might be buying this or maybe not (because I might be broke after getting all 5 titles above. boooooooo). Release date is on October 6. Also available for PS3 and Xbox 360.
Other games worth to look at:
- Wolfenstein
- Gran Turismo
- Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition
End.

Definitely some good games to spend my rig on.
